Inuyasha and Fairy tale would be a great start with such deep characters and strong story.

I would definitely recommend Dragon Ball Z if you are interested in combat anime, gets us jacked up with macho dialogues and action.

Would Recommend Bleach, Law of Ueki, Getbackers and Inuyasha. These are my all time favourites.
