I would say:
Adobe Photoshop for 2D Logos
Cinema 4D for 3D logos

IIllustrator > Any kind of logo.
Vector > Cinema 4D > Logo.

I don't use Illustrator. It's the best for logo's though.

Illustrator gives the greatest result as it has proper pixel set and format for all outputs. (Essentially everything comes out smoother than something in Photoshop would.)

I'd say Illustrator is for rounded type of Logos.

Illustrator, however it is hard to get started and requires good skill with vectors.

Photoshop is good for beginners.

Is it photoshop?

Depends on the type of logos you intend on doing. Website logos are typically done in Photoshop either by text and layer styles or vectored images but illustrator is a great program for just straight up vectoring logos.

Program(s). In order to make a top notch logo, you normally require one ore more utilities.

In this case, for your logo it'd be C4D or Blender, and PhotoShop, or Gimp.

I've never used Adobe Illustrator but from my experience, I would go with Photoshop CS6. I recommend revising Illustrator through YouTube or some sort before hand though. Smile
