That wasn't something we had, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are implications. It would require changes to MyBB's functionality, as well.

Currently, you can report a thread and have staff open/close it for you. I'm aware it's possible to add that functionality, but it would require edits or a plugin (like the 9 year old one you linked). Currently we're working on re-releasing the old theme and awaiting 1.9's release, so I'm hesitant to stack any more plugins on top of our already endless list.

Fair enough, as @mothered mentioned though, the volume for this is high, so it may be worth looking into.
