That said, I do appreciate people encouraging scans, and I've never interjected when people ask for them. The reason we've been so quiet and hands-off about these things, is because it can easily turn into a "he said, she said" deal. One person says malware, the other says false-positive.I understand the part "One person says malware, the other says false-positive", however such a statement can't be proven to be false when there is foolproof evidence posted by me or other members which, at the end of the day it's the staff who make the decision. It shouldn't be too much of a big issue really. Regarding the part where people post fake VT scans, it purely shows that they have something to hide and most likely intent to infect, which should also be added to the rules if you do make the decision of implementing this suggestion. Quote:Another problem is that some content creators will inevitably stop posting (if they rely on redirects/shortlinks). As for an actual plugin/modification to the site, it isn't viable due to how many plugins/modifications we already have. That's a very good point. However, the question at the end of the day is, are we going to allow content creators to send our users through twelve different layers of malware just to make the end user a few cents or make a positive contribution to this forum? One of which other users can learn and benefit. If you're here as a content creator and solely posting content with the intent to make some spare change, I certainly believe that you're in the wrong place for that. There are better ways to make money than harvesting them trough the members of our community. Whatever your decision will be, I want you to know that I will fully respect that. Regardless of the outcome, I'm looking forward to the final decision. I didn't expect it to be interpreted as such and forgot about that edit. That said, I've amended it to be definite, and added a rule prohibiting shortlinks/redirects. Quote:You must post a virus-scan for any files you upload or link to. Redirects/shortlinks are not allowed. The prohibition of redirection and shortlinks, Is also welcomed. RE: Direct download links & Virustotal scan reports - Gary Oak - 08-01-2019 I think it's only fair that people post virus scans, it's sadly not so good when they do archives only for software etc, but other than that it's fine.
