I've been using 500GB hdd for a while on a gaming laptop... Not even nearly enough storage with the rate games are expanding their download sizes. I was unpleasantly surprised when I had to uninstall/never download approximately 90% of my game libraries. At some point I'd like to invest in a large SSD but cannot justify the cost at the moment. On my main tower I believe I have 2 or 3TB HDD which does me just fine.

I have so many HDDs and SSHDs sitting around it doesn't make sense to even count them. If one fails, no matter what size, I have another to throw in to whatever computer needs it. My main lappy is running a TB SSD and a TB SSHD. My tower is running something like 5TB of HDD and SSHD mixed with one 320gb SSD for things I want to load quickly.
Then I have a SATA dock that plugs in via oldschool USB that allows me the use of any hard drive I look at and decide to pick up. What's on em? Movies, tv series, video games, combo lists, minimal amounts of hacking tools, and a shitload of unfinished drafts of computer science papers I was writing for blogs throughout the years that I abandoned.
Some of em aren't bad. Might have to dust them off for my new job.

Always store/backup your data locally. You don't know who has access to your files via cloud storage.
