I just picked up a macbook pro a few days ago... and it's beautiful.

Yeah, pretty much the same, 2 days old, already reinstalled the OS 1 time after fucking up the libs. I would recommend getting iTerm2, brew and of course updating to yosemite beta.

edit: Skype, utorrent and chrome. It's like you're back on windows again.

Actually switching from Arch... I'm not sure why having Skype and Chrome makes my mac experience one similar to windows considering both are widely used on all platforms.

I don't think I plan on playing with the mac so much as it will be primarily used for work and school.

I was just mainly thinking about the information they are collecting, but that aside, it was just joking with you. Though, iTerm and brew doesn't mean you have to use your max as a playground. It just makes the experience easier. Yosemite on the otherhand might make a few things complicated.

Brew is a package manager like pacman.

Ah ok. I'm not big into privacy so that's prolly why I didn't get it -_-. When I booted it up and was ready to install my everyday programs, I was kinda bummed out that I had to install everything manually. Does brew maintain it's own repos? Are they good at keeping things up to date? If all is well it'll definitely help make the switch a little easier on me.

As far as I've experienced a lot of things are up to date, but also being on yosemite some things is not always working, I had to do a few hacks to get gcc compile ncmpcpp. But you can check it out on http://brew.sh/ There is also other package managers such as macports. Haven't tried those since they are not compatible with yosemite.
