I think you should try minecraft Smile. I really love the game and there is no objective. Build whatever you want. The problem is the game is free BUT
co -op isn't but it is really cheap. (game doesn't end even if you beat the enderdragon and credits come. You keep on playing after they are done)

I picked up Civilization V Gold during the Steam Summer Sale, and I've been playing that. I haven't played any Civ games before and I found this one pretty addicting. I was up until the wee hours saying 'Just one more turn...'.

I also picked up Counter Strike: Complete on sale too. I haven't played any of them before, and I'm pretty into Source at the moment. I can't run Global Offensive as smoothly, but I put a couple of hours into that as well.

Minecraft is free? I don't think so, unless you're talking about playing a cracked version. Even then there are a ton of cracked servers.
