Best is a matter of opinion, what's best for you might not be the best choice for someone else.

None of my systems run Windows.
I have Mint here on my main laptop and Backtrack 5r3 on a spare laptop next to me on another desk.
I don't use Backtrack much, mostly used for Wireless stuff.

I've been using various distributions for years now and never went back to Windows.
It's the future of OSs.

My brother also uses GNU/Linux and my mother who knows next to nothing about computers, also uses a distribution of Linux.

I am soon going to entirely forget about Windows. I will have a Windows machine somewhere around for some tasks but it's going to be mainly Linux. Before, I used Ubuntu but lately I have become a big fan of Mint.

What is the best distro to learn on?

CentOS and Ubuntu is not a bad choice(although you can change Ubuntu with some other Debian OS). It's nice to have both Red Hat and Debian flavors so you can see the difference. But don't start with something like Kali because it can get too comfortable hanging out in root and this is not the best way to learn Linux.

I think Ubuntu is the most stable and upgradeable.

I disagree no distribution is more stable or upgradeable than another, when it comes to this they are all equal as they all use the same basic kernel (although modified to suit the project). All distros are open source so all of them benefit from being (relatively) easily modified to allow more stability and all distributions can be configured and upgraded the same way.
