New Occupation! [Huge Milestone] - Aeolian - 06-28-2017

For those that don't know I'm currently an Electrician. I work on solar panels every day of my life, fixing them, repairing, installing, removing etc.

I have quit after 7 years in the industry. Reason behind me quitting is because I want a change in lifestyle. I was working in the sun bending over which has caused multiple problems for my lower back.

After quitting I had told myself If I'm getting a new job I'm going to aim high. What do ya know, I ended up applying for the largest phone company in Australia (Telstra) as a Sales Consultant. As this job is actually pretty high up I had to go through a large amount of recruiting stages.

Stage 1: Face to face interview (My favorite ones, I'm a confident speaker and have had many interviews throughout my life).

Stage 2: Reading, Listening, Writing and Spelling test. Yes I had to complete all these, went for like 4 hours Sad Sad

After qualifying the first two stages it came down to the last stage. Keep in mind each stage people get eliminated. It started at 150 people which ended up being *9* people in the final stage of their recruitment process.

Stage 3: A random phone call that was given at any time between 8am-8pm. I then had to try sell my boss (he's been selling Telstra products his whole life, so basically a sales master) teltra products.

He said he felt persuaded & convinced by my sales pitch and he congratulated me on my new occupation. I can now say I'm a fully qualified Telstra Sales Consultant. HORRAY!!

This was a extremely risking for me, quitting my full time job before even finding another one and then finding one 2 weeks later.

Another bonus (sorry for typing so much) I will be earning $1400 p/week + Commissions. My boss was telling me that someone last week had earned $5,500 in commisions and ended up taking $6,900 home that week. People do that EVERY week. I cannot wait until I've reached that skill level.

Overall I'm super stoked and just a fucking happy cunt, seriously.

Congratulations my friend! That is some very good news you're bringing! I'm sure you'll do a great job and getting a shit ton of commissions!

Do you think you'll miss working as an electrician or? That's a very decent payout as well. Does this job mean you'll have to be on the phone 24/7 or will it also be going to people house/companies etc...
I'll keep my thumbs up for ya!

I'll be on the phone in my own office, as I said completely different lifestyle right? Super excited!

I will definitely miss working as an electrician as it was my first "real" occupation, I have alot of knowledge gained from doing it so I'm sure if I was to get sick of my new job I can always start up my own business! I'm entitled too anyway.

@Aeolian That's awesome. It takes a lot of confidence to change up a stable life style in such a drastic way. The lower back pain issue, well that could be a good reason to change tho, since it's irreversible. Office jobs are usually boring, but they don't put that much strain on your body, except the sitting I guess, which is good for your future health.

And seeing, on how much you could potentially earn, I think it was definitely worth the try. I wish you all the best and luck with your new occupation!

Telstra Is huge and to land a job there, takes some doing- of which I take my hat off to you.

A huge congratulations, you definitely deserve It. Personally In terms of selecting a carrier, I wouldn't go with anyone else. Vodafone Is trash and Optus follows close by. What's of benefit to you, Is "job security". I cannot see Telstra folding anytime soon.
Congrats again.

Holy shit, that's amazing! Congrats! Electrical engineering and working with solar panels sounds cool, but I imagine the appeal wears off after a while.

That's a crazy recruitment process, though, I'd never make it through that.

Congratulations man! Working sales is something that, while I've never had the desire to do it, something I imagine would work out pretty well in terms of interest and interaction.

Your turnaround time for leaving your previous job and joining this one is amazing, and I'm glad you had the ability to jump and take that risk.
