Anime Music - Now it's own Genre? - Jiggly - 05-14-2017

There seems to be growing interest in listening to music from anime shows. I was not aware that it is now a genre it's own right, with three sub-genres:
  • Anime scores (background music that usually emphasises an emotional scene),
  • Anime tie-up songs (songs from pop/rock artists that happen to be used in anime),
  • Anime songs (songs by artists who predominantly produce music for anime).

The anime tie-up songs I figured would make sense, since it's a clash of the pop/rock culture with anime, but the other sub-genres are gaining momentum in mainstream Japan.

Full article here

The above article goes into great detail and includes a bunch of songs that got seriously popular, including the all too well-known track in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

What do you think of this? Do any of you often listen to songs from shows or whole soundtracks?

I got one of my friends into anime, now he has all the intro songs downloaded.

I personally don't listen to them (except for one case)

I'm pretty similar to you there. I don't usually listen to them. There's a couple that I like, but it's more to the extent that I won't skip the intro if it's a good intro song.

I've seen people consistently request anime songs etc on twitch streams and such xD

When I'm watching a series, I usually watch the OP/ED first ep or 2, then periodically watch the OP while watching. Although, it majorly depends of, well, if the OP is good in my opinion.

I usually listen to a good OP/ED once in a while when doing schoolwork and other things on the computer. One of my favorite EDs is Heikousen. Although, it's not the only thing I listen to. Again, just once in awhile.

Eh, I listen to a few, but it's just that it's so addicting.
It comes to the point that I can actually say multiple japanese sentences..

I know the whole song of this intro - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JaJdzn14kU
And I like this, too - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJYe0PdCiFA

I feel like most people are like that. I don't know many people who would have 50 anime songs in their music library xD

I personally don't listen to Anime openings and such. I actually skip them just to start the episodes.

I always thought the "otaku" thing would always have stigma - I guess times are a-changing.

Whenever I start a new anime, I usually listen to its opening and ending once to see if I like it or not. Even if I do like it, I rarely listen to it, since I might forgot it by that time.

I love the japanese language tho, even tho I understand nothing, I can atleast still feel the emotions and such in a song.
