TheTechGame.com Wrote:With the Nintendo Switch's price and release date finally revealed at an event in Japan, finer details regarding the console are slowly emerging.

According to Netflix's customer support, the Nintendo Switch does not support popular TV and movie streaming service Netflix.

This could be a major blow to the console. Netflix has more than 80 million subscribers the world over. It's even available on seemingly underpowered devices such as the PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS in addition to the Wii U, the PS3, the PS4, the Xbox 360, and the Xbox One.

Quote:"Great to hear, thank you for waiting, I just checked the information but we still haven't received any updates regarding this, at this time it doesn't support Netflix, however we are taking feedback regarding this, this is to make Netflix aware of the customers that enquire [a]bout this or are interested in this," said a Netflix customer service representative to a user on popular gaming forum NeoGAF.

Nonetheless, the Nintendo Switch has a solid line up of launch games to cover up the lack of secondary functionality such as Netflix for movie and TV show streaming. With Arms, 1 2 Switch, and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild available at launch, there's a lot for fans to look forward to. Crucially, plenty of details about the UI and OS were left out of the Nintendo Switch event leaving us wondering what to expect.

What were they thinking?

I've watched netflix on almost all the devices I use.

Eh, idk if this is such a minus as the article puts it out to be. Literally everything can play netflix nowadays, I doubt many people would actually use the switch for netflix streaming. Unless you're going to be using it as an all-in-one media device, which I don't think they are marketing it as, then there's really no point.

I see Nintendo's consoles as more of a "support peripheral" for the media-center rather than a standalone thing

No Netflix support... remember what I said about Nintendo needing third party support to make this console a success? Not a great start.

In all honesty, the only way I'd get this is because of Melee HD or Melee online.

Personally, I wouldn't mind. I can run Netflix on my phone and it's fine. I've watched almost every serie on Netlfix already (in my country we have a way less content than the US for example has), so I don't really mind.

It probably will in the future anyway lets be honest

This doesn't mean it won't be available some day. Probably someone will mod it or they might even release it themselves after some time.

I don't see the issue. Never used Netflix on the Wii U anyway. So not having it here won't seem like a big difference.
Third party games are what the switch needs. Which I don't see them getting much of because of how time consuming / expensive to be to program your game for a completely different Controller / 2 screens and shit. (Look at the wiiu)

Meh. They're trying.
