Scottish Roller Coaster derailed. - Azzid - 06-27-2016

Eight children and two adults have been injured after a rollercoaster derailed and crashed at a theme park in North Lanarkshire in Scotland.
Police said the injured were all being treated at local hospitals.
Six ambulances and six fire engines were at the M&D's park near Strathclyde Park, Motherwell, after being called at 15:37. It was evacuated shortly after.
One adult and one child are in a stable condition and three children are expected to be allowed home later.
The injured are being cared for at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Wishaw General and the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, although details of their injuries have not been released.
The incident involved the Tsunami ride, which can travel at up to 40mph through corkscrew turns and loops. One eyewitness said "people were trapped upside down on the ride" following the crash.
Police Scotland revised down the number of injured from its initial estimate of 11 and confirmed there were nine passengers on the ride at the time.

It makes you wonder "how" maintenance Is carried out and "when".
In other words, I'd assume that those specialized In such structures would perform regular maintenance. Lives are at risk here and It's amazing that there's no fatalities.

Well, thankfully there aren't any fatalities, as @mothered said, they seriously need to perform some better maintenance and if it was up to code, either revise the code or revise the testing procedures.

Almost every ride accident is due to poor maintenance. I'll bet safety procedures were overlooked here.

This is my worst fear of amusement parks come to life 0.0
Hopefully this never happens again and maintence gets their shit together. Would not ever go to that park, though.

I have to say, it's not all about maintenance when it's a roller coaster. It is crazy work as an architectural designer, and despite not knowing it, there are always some faults. I wouldn't assume it was the maintenances faults just by looking at it and reading it. It could be, but then again, what maintenance would stop a rollercoaster from derailing? Rebuilding the whole rollercoaster once a year?

Jeez, this is one of my top fears. I don't mind roller coasters but I hate to read stories like this where they derail, freak me the hell out. :c

The fact that nobody died at those speeds seems impressive. It actually made me wonder what kind of prep the ride designs and constructions go through to ensure people don't die upon derail.
I once was at a park in Spain where they had a wooden ride and when we reached the slow down at the peak, my friend goes "this would not pass health and safety in England"... The scream that escaped me on the decline was full of genuine fear.
