Greek Women = Price of Sandwich? - Oni - 11-28-2015 I'm not sure if I actually trust Unilad as a source, but I think this shows that Greece is having economic problems. And, I guess economic problems are not exactly new for them. Gregory Laxos Wrote:Some women just do it for a cheese pie, or a sandwich they need to eat because they are hungry. Others [do it] to pay taxes, bills, for urgent expenses or a quick [drug] fix. Code: "According to The Independent the study gathered data on over 17,000 sex workers operating in Greece – they found that most Eastern European women working in the sex trade had been replaced by local Greek women, who now make up 80 per cent of sex workers."
"The study also discovered that prostitutes in Greece were offering some of the cheapest prices in Europe."
"At the start of the economic crisis the average rate a prostitute would charge for sex was 50 Euros (£35), but according to Laxos the going rate can be as low as two Euros (£1.40).
"He says the study highlights the desperation among young Greek women in the current climate, adding: 'It doesn’t look like these numbers will fade. Rather they are growing at a steady and consistent pace.'"
"And while prostitution is legal in Greece, it has very few licensed brothels, meaning an estimated 18,500 sex workers operate on the streets – and the study showed that most of the women turning to the sex trade are aged between 17 and 20."
"Laxos says his study ‘reflects a society in denial about the changes taking place’ in Greece, adding: “State authorities must finally act rather than continuing to remain indifferent,” he warned."Read More: Unilad RE: Greek Women = Price of Sandwich? - mothered - 11-28-2015 The economy In Greece has been pretty bad for quite a while now. I believe at one stage, they couldn't afford to pay social security benefits to the elderly, and the banks were low on cash. I had no Idea of the actions women were taking though. Interesting reading. RE: Greek Women = Price of Sandwich? - The Real Slim Shady - 11-28-2015 Okay, booking a flight to Greece, right now! <3$ a lay for a teen is just too good a deal to pass up! I heard something along the lines of what you've mentioned here, but wasn't sure at the time. Personally, I cannot fathom how the economy got to that point. Surely, after "early" Indications of economic failure, the government could've formulated strategies to prevent It's downfall. I realize It's easier said than done, but I'm a firm believer that preventative measures can always be Implemented (to some degree) In any situation. RE: Greek Women = Price of Sandwich? - Greece - 01-18-2016 I can vouch for this 100%. |
