Best free to play FPS games (WWII) - m0dem - 09-20-2015

What are the best free to play FPS games. I am preferably looking for WWII and WWI era games, but anything will help! Thanks. Cool

I personally think that if you're willing to pour potentially hundreds of hours into a game, you should pay for it.

OT: Battlefield 1942 is in the era you're looking for, and it's a great game (just kinda hard to learn), but it's not free.

Heroes and generals is the only one i can think of. Its a little Pay for power to me but there are players who are very good and enjoy the game without paying. Here is the link. http://www.heroesandgenerals.com/18/?

Heroes and Generals is way too Pay 2 Win for me, and the incentive to pay is massive with how hard it is to grind out a new gun/rank.

H&G is a great one, I know. I just discovered it a few days ago, but the problem is I get horrible FPS (~10fps on fullscreen @ full resolution (1920x1080)). Even though my computer is decent (a10-7850k) and should be able to run the game no problem (Minecraft runs really well on it, high graphics settings and high fps), it sucks. 20 FPS is fine, but when it gets below 10, its not very useful. Although an APU is not optimal for gaming, this is a new PC and this not acceptable performance. I have opened a ticket with the H&G support.

Another game you could try is Quake live. Its a really fun basic FPS. Its more competitive like cs:go vs TF2. Whats fun about it is how fast paced it is and the rocket jumps.

I like watching CS:GO gameplay, so I'll look into Quake live.
Thanks for the suggestions! Biggrin

As at least one person above me mentioned Heroes & Generals is probably one of the best free FPS games ever made. Its also pretty hard to cheat in it compared to other games considering they no longer seem to support DX9, which at least invalidates my private cheat, so cheaters aren't really a problem either. Due to its slow nature, people who play it are also usually older and more mature than your average Battlefield/COD player, which makes for great discussions and teamwork.

EDIT: Just saw your post complaining about the performance of H&G. CSGO is definitively worth it if you have a little extra to spend and its pretty much free during the steam sales. You can also get it on G2A.com for a pretty cheap price. It also perfectly on pretty much every potato.

I'm going to be verbally shot for saying this but I really enjoy War Thunder. There is just something that I can't quite put into words when I am dropping bombs onto the enemy while cruising in my bomber listening to this

I don't think its overall pay to win because there is still quite of a bit of luck and skill involved (Some matches more luck than skill).

It runs on potatoes but can also run on sexy potatoes and still looks pretty french fry on the lowest settings. I hope that makes sense.

If you're interested, I'll add you on steam and we can play sometime.

Its funny you talk about War Thunder, since I just installed it last night and I was playing around with it a little this morning. I did the training missions for tanker, fighter, and bomber; I even played a few multiplayer missions that were fun ... even if I did get creamed. Tongue

I would be interested in playing with you, but I just downloaded the client installer off the WT site, not through Steam. I wonder if there is any way to get my current installation working with Steam?

Have a good day. Cool
