How does it seem like an opportunity to you that kids are being coerced into law enforcement?

It would be cool, however risky.
There's no way to tell if they would choose you.

True, but that's the way a lot of jobs are.

The only legal way that you can hack and get paid is if you're a whitehat. If you go in that field with blackhat intentions, you won't make it that far.
It's a good place to be in, if that's what you're asking, I'd suggest to look into it. Just as long as you're doing everything legal.

I'd never qualify, but if I did, I wouldn't want to get involved as in that way I would lose my anonymity. I'd become a marked "hacker". Security clearances for Government officials are enormously thorough as I understand, and I'd imagine in Australia even more so, since it's a typical British colony type Government with layers of bureaucracy, paper work and now probably creating a database of hackers and connecting them electronically with all of their other databases - cross referencing them. I doubt once one has been made part of the system, that one would be able to bale out easily.

Think the only way it could work is if the hacker had the option to join "anonymously" and maintain his/her anonymity. Otherwise for me it would be the Government killing all of the originality of the hacker, by trying to control the hacker.

I'm just naturally suspicious and cynical of Governments, their systems and their culture. It runs complete counter to the originality of anything creative, including hacking.
