[Question] Kali setup tutorial request. - Sebastionay - 03-18-2013

I want to setup and run Kali from USB without using my physical DVD drive.

I want it to have persistence. My USB is exactly 7.1GB

I've made two FAT32 partitions on the drive.

2.3GB(ready for the disk image)

4.8GB (for the installation and to save files)

How do I take it from here and get it working? I'm using windows XP. I see that unetbootin doesn't recognize the partitions and only offers persistence for ubuntu anyway.

I want to burn the imagine onto the 2.3GB partition and install it onto the larger 4.8GB partition.

Ex094, care to take the time when permitting to make a video tutorial of the proceedings if the Author doesn't mind or a written one?
I recall we had another gentleman asking the very same question for a similar Linux distribution sometime back in very late January where we both were explaining similar approaches to accomplishing the same effect.

I had a problem with Unetbootin when I tried that by myself because it didn't make seperate partitions.

We just tried VM and that didn't work because I don't have usb 2.0 ports. the usb is 2.0 and the VM doesn't recognize that the hardware is plugged in. There must be some easy fix for that but we haven't worked it out yet.

Doesn't or rather shouldn't VM already have a package for USB support, like Virtualbox does?
If the VM isn't recognizing that the hardware is plugged in, you may need to manually "show" the VM where it is plugged in.

I'm on a commenting rampage of rambling before my next Work Load Cycle begins in a few days.
Point this to Ex094, he'll know what I'm speaking of.
And no worries, he'll get your problem straightened out in due process.

Well-i might say that is more easy to make a dvd live and install on your usb-why take 2 gb only for iso when you can use to have more memory.Kali is a new op.sistem and every day there is an update to make. For not saying that most off the tool ,they are, but you must update if you want to run.I use 70 gb for kali-60 only for ext4 file journaling and other for swap,home.....I not see a good idea to make portable but at least make a iso file on dvd.

This happened to me the last time I booted it off usb before asking for help.
