Sword Art Online - Oni - 04-15-2013 This is an anime that I didn't ever intend to actually watch, since a lot of people in 4chan's /a/nime section were bashing it. Needless to say, I'm glad I didn't listen to them. A couple of days ago I logged into my Crunchyroll account and noticed I still had membership. I saw Sword Art Online and I decided I'd watch the first episode and I immediately became hooked. I watched the entire series in about a day. The action was excellent and I won't lie, it was probably the romantic aspect of the anime that kept me watching. The first half (which is based in SAO) was excellent, although I felt it was somewhat rushed. They could have easily drug it on for 100 or so episodes, but simply shortened it. The second half (which is based in ALfheim) could have also been longer, although I enjoyed the first half much more. Regardless, the endings of both halves were excellent. As far as audio goes, I don’t speak Japanese – so I could only interpret so much. The voice acting was pretty decent (if not great) from what I could tell and the soundtracks fit perfectly with the genre. The animation was also above average and outranks many anime. Although the animation wasn’t anything extremely fancy, it was certainly great. However, what is really worth mentioning is the plot. There are certainly other anime out there that are similar, but I think it goes without I ended up finishing the series because of the plot. Despite being relatively busy in real-life (and on the forum) I managed to scrounge up enough time to. The characters are also pretty well-rounded, although I felt like more should have been revealed about the other characters. By the end, you learn a lot about Kirito and his sister, but not a whole lot about Asuna or the antagonists. Sword Art Online has gained a large amount of praise lately and is outranking many of the ones people would consider god-tier. Even if you aren’t a big video-gamer, I think you should watch the first couple of episodes and get a feel for it. Personally, I haven’t played an MMORPG in ages, but I still enjoyed the anime quite a bit. It’s truly unique and unlike other anime, a lot of different people can enjoy it. Unlike most anime, I can easily see Sword Art Online appealing to a wide variety of other audiences that aren’t normally addressed. This is an excellent anime for people to check out, even if anime isn’t something they are a huge fan of. I’ve recommended it to two friends already and both absolutely love it. The amount of work that went into its creation is very much visible, although I wish it had gone on for much longer. Here's Anime Planet's synopsis of the anime: Quote:The year is 2022, and gamers have lined up on launch day for Sword Art Online, a hotly-anticipated MMORPG that lets players connect to an immersive virtual reality world with special helmets called Nerve Gear. Kirito is one such gamer who's eager to jump back into action, having spent a great deal of time as a beta tester, and quickly becomes friends with newbie warrior Klein. But soon, Sword Art Online's 10,000 players discover that not only are they unable to log out, the only way they can return to their physical bodies is by beating the 100-level tower's final boss - that is, if their HP doesn't drop to zero first, for death in the game means death in the real world. Now, with no one else to turn to, Kirito and the other participants must survive the game as best they can – some forming guilds, others ruthlessly leaving their peers behind, and many tragically falling by the wayside or to the merciless monsters populating the lands... RE: Sword Art Online - Nefarious - 04-15-2013 I've been watching this all day, you got me addicted to it. I love it.

I sure hope they extend it. I heard they are making an anime off of Gun Gale Online (which would be a continuation from what I can tell). If they make one off of Gun Gale Online, I sure hope Asuna is still involved. The series wouldn't be nearly as good without Asuna. RE: Sword Art Online - Katakitsu - 04-25-2013 I loved and I still love this show, the manga is amazing too! I cannot wait for Sword Art Online: Gun Gale so that we can see Kirito as a girl... :3 Re: RE: Sword Art Online - Oni - 04-25-2013 (04-25-2013, 06:51 PM)Katakitsu Wrote: I loved and I still love this show, the manga is amazing too! I wonder what that will do to his relationship with Asuna. RE: Sword Art Online - Katakitsu - 04-25-2013 I am also interested in seeing how he reacts to having curves.. :3 RE: Sword Art Online - Jiggly - 04-26-2013 Whelp I've started my watching of this and I agree - It's very highly recommendable to anyone. Great anime! (I'm only a few episodes in and it's already awesome.) The curves comment was hilarious xD I like how this anime seems to have so many different elements to it which will appeal to so many different people! Re: Sword Art Online - Oni - 04-26-2013 It is funny, because I have read a lot about how it came to be. Apparently the artist had stuff in the manga/anime that wasn't too kid friendly (ie. rape) and had to be cut. The gender-switching seems like something that would happen in a ecchi/hentai series. Hopefully it won't go overboard. Spoiler:After the tentacle scene and end of the series, does it really surprise you? I like this anime because it isn't filled with ecchi. I doubt it will get much worse. Spoiler: Also, I would genuinely hate to see anything else happen to Asuna. They already had to deal with Nobuyuki and I really disliked that part. Then again, I think the artist did a very good job at making people hate him. |
