Unoffical IRC channel - JesseH - 01-26-2013
Hey,
I have done a little research and HC doesn't have an IRC channel.
So I created one in freenode.
##hc_unofficial
Remember this is an unofficial channel, and just a way for us to communicate through IRC.
So if you would like, join the channel, idle, and chat. Hope to see you all soon.

I'm not sure this is going to be used. We have had IRC channels before and nobody ever visited them. I would also say that i personally loves IRC and it's a fantastic tool to communicate on a relaxing way. But it's either going to be a dead channel or it will (properly not) going to reduce activity here.

Personally I love IRC.
And my line of logic dictates; why choose one when an individual can choose both.
P.S.-Not to mention, carrying on a conversation in IRC and commenting in the forum is an excellent means of keeping abreast of one's typing skills, speed, etc.

I too like IRC but don't you think people would then rather ask in IRC than in forum.Isn't purpose of forum getting defeated?

Negative.
Because in this case, as stated by Anima Templi, most of the community here wouldn't bother using it to begin with.
Currently there're only two people in the channel. Me (and here at the same time) and JesseH himself.
Which of course is supporting evidence that the majority here will not use it accordingly.

I believe I've made that statement abundantly clear, while also stating I enjoy IRC'ing in the same statement.
Including what I personally agree to or disagree to as a single individual is irrelevant when it comes to the democracy of the Community as a whole that Bluedog's website is built upon for the end User.
Do we need an official IRC Channel?
No.
Will it hurt for any individual to create one in Freenode already knowing it'll be low yield on traffic to begin with?
No.

I think a channel is a good addition to the forum.
I have been in other forums with irc channels and chatting with the people is just a different thing than posting or writing PM. You feel that you get closer to them. You feel free to talk about the less important stuff and to joke around. You ask people how they are, what you never do on the forum. You sometimes talk about more personal things also. I don't think it will decrease activity here, but it will get people closer to each other, which makes them more attached to HC (a forum is not more than the people that use it).

In the time I have been on HC, I have saw at least 3 IRC suggestions (an official HC IRC channel) and they all have been denied. Probably nobody would go in there.
