What about some sort of live chat plugin? I'm not sure if people would actually use that or not.

The thing is, HC isn't big enough to support such thing just yet. We had a few similar plugins and we noticed decrease in activity every time they were introduced. Also, moderating such chat is difficult.
If we grow and we have a bit bigger group of active users, we can think about it. But not just now
