tor is good, but its only as secure as the nodes your data passes through.
AND a lot of servers and such ban the ip's of exit nodes... which sucks cause I like using it for irc.

I tend to stay away from tor simply for the reasons in the posts above me: it is not 100% effective.
Ill stick with my vpn =)

I use TOR from time to time but as others said its not that secure. Who knows who might be reading your data once it comes out at the end of a node. For that I prefer to use I2P for the reasons:
1) You can choose your own level of anonymity
2) P2P file sharing friendly, no need to hide you file sharing activity
3) I2P has a free anonymous e-mail service
And many more to name.

Yeah tor is great, although i would rather use a vpn. but tor is good cause its portable (just stick it on a usb and away you go) but how often do you need to take it with you? Play it safe... use a vpn

Tor isn't that reliable. First of all, they supply the list of all exit nodes which lets websites easily block all tor connections. Second, the exit nodes can analyze your packets and see what you are doing. Luckily, the middle nodes can't do this because the connection is encrypted when it' passing through them, however, at the exit node, it's decrypted and easy for people to compromise your privacy. In fact, there are a couple exit nodes owned by LE, so they are actively monitoring atleast some of the tor network.
Also, VPNs aren't much better. Alot of them claim not to keep logs, but most of them do. Don't think that a VPN that keeps log offers an anonymity. If you're doing anything illegal, you might as well not be using anything. They will hand over the logs to LE as fast as they can if they are asked for them.

If your lucky enough to find a VPN that don't keep logs congradz. And don't get me wrong, there out there.
