With the new ranks it would be interesting to see who would be top rep. Plus rep doesn't really matter that much, so it shouldn't affect anyone right? :

Plus rep does matter.
It's something that has been built up upon time by multiple users and shows your legitimacy in the community.

Ranks give you the ability to give more rep.

Well technically, the rep doesn't count because the majority of members that have +4 +3 are from legacy members. I don't care about rep personally but it does make since to have rep reset. Also, for people who do care about rep buy the new ranks to increase there reputation generally on forums the higher ranks receive more rep because they people expect +3,+4 back. Which in the long run makes Oni more money and the site up longer.

PPeople who out +3s and +4s spent between 5,000 and 20,000 SP to get that rank. That''s a lot of posting. People who have out +3/4s earned their place in the community to be able to provide a larger impact on a users reputation compared to someone with 50. Someone with ~1,000 I'd going to know who they're repping due to activity, and will give positive or negative rep accordingly.

To be fair, some people care about their reputation. So it'd make a difference to them, more so than it would you as a user.

Why do people think that others do not care about reputation. While I'll agree that rep doesn't mean much, being up there carries a certain level of status. Being top rep obviously doesn't make me better than anyone else here, but it is a nice little thing to have. I'm against a rep reset as we had one not too long ago.

Just them being legacy members doesn't make their rep given not count, it means the user has a long history of leaving a positive impact on people.

I would personally vouch against a reputation reset, as like many people said in the thread, it shows the legitimacy and trustworthiness of certain users, especially useful in the use of vouches during sales. I'm also sure that, as @Jiggly said, some reps contain personal and noteworthy comments left from past members that mean a lot more to an individual member than a +1 would seem.

There has already been a rep reset. As someone who's been here since 2012 it's a tedious process of continuing showing your legitimacy to the community when your efforts have already been long established through time. While I wouldn't sweat it if I got my rep reset, I also wouldn't vote in favor of it as there is no benefit. I repped people who I liked and people who enjoyed what I had to say repped me back. What's the point of taking it away? Unless Oni wants to change every positive and negative to a + and - 1 to be fair.
