What Should I Get? - Equinox - 05-12-2014 Well, I'm really done w/ Ubuntu. I am already dual booting it with Debian, so I am thinking of getting Linux mint now. Which version should I get? Xfce, CInnamon, etc. Just post below. I really can't decide for myself. I have a 64 bit architecture, so just keep that in mind if you're going to recommend something. RE: What Should I Get? - w00t - 05-12-2014 Use debian? Gentoo that bitch? RE: What Should I Get? - tortilla - 05-12-2014 If you really want to use Mint, it doesnt matter what DE will you use. But, in my opinion, Cinnamon looks best. I myself prefer Openbox, but that's just window mannager, and you have to do all shit yourself (panel, wallpaper management, compositing, etc). RE: What Should I Get? - cr33pyguy - 05-12-2014 Why move away from ubuntu in the first place? If it's the lack of applications move to windows, if it's just something else (like the damn Unity desktop environment), hop on to the default mint, it's pretty neat (maybe even with the MATE desktop?) It's because Ubuntu is supposedly Linux for Kids. Welp, I got Mint XFCE.

RE: What Should I Get? - BreShiE - 05-13-2014 Mint is what I call Linux for dumbies haha. It's the first Linux OS I used as suggested because of how easy to use and stable it is. I really just want to get away from Windows now and explore different OSes so I can learn more and have a broadened range of knowledge. I used it for about 6months and eventually had to go back to windows. I loved that OS though. RE: What Should I Get? - w00t - 05-13-2014 Any distro can be seen as "Linux for kids" if you never do anything but use the gui. |
