Downfall of Windows? - Kinanizer - 01-11-2013 Personally, I hate Windows. Mainly because they're not open-source and like to charge big money for their product. They've been able to get away with this for a long time, but now with Linux growing ever more popular, do you think they'll last? I've been a happy Linux user for quite some time. The distro I use has a GUI that's better then Window's, and the performance is vastly better. The only reason I haven't completely switched is gaming support. What I have read from other gamers is the same thing. Now that Steam is finally showing support for Linux, do you think Windows will last? Windows is what big corporations use. Hardly Linux. RE: Downfall of Windows? - ねこまっしぐら - 01-11-2013 I use windows cause I have the one that cost $100 that my friend gave me for free. Untrue, many corporations have switched to Linux. The ones that haven't are most likely doing so because they've invested money in Windows software. Now if we look at the big picture, this will be a chain reaction. Steam support will make Linux a great choice, and soon software devs will have to realize that. Once they do, bye bye Windows. I would never pay for Windows. As for OP: Windows will NEVER simply "go down", it will always be the most used type of computer, Linux is only used by people who actually know their way around a computer. It is not cracked, I downloaded it from Microsoft. As for your second statement, that is debatable. My aunt, who has never used a computer, has received a refurbished, by me, lap-top. I installed Linux on it, and have been training her to use it. She is defiantly not a person who knows anything about computers. Thats what majority of internet users use the internet for, socializing. RE: Downfall of Windows? - i0xIllusi0n - 01-11-2013 Notice how you're saying you're training her.. This is how I see it, As said before, Windows won't imply "go down," it's just a matter of who uses what. Linux distributions are TYPICALLY for web servers, and stuff like that. Windows is the most common home OS, but Mac is coming up as well as a very common home OS. When I say Windows is for home computers, don't get me wrong, I know there are tons of people who use Linux as a main OS, I'm just saying that typically, it will be Windows. I have never seen anything for Linux in Walmart or best buy. Ok, that's a lie, I have seen stuff that does support linux, but the product is typically leaning to the Windows side of the competition. RE: Downfall of Windows? - w00t - 01-11-2013 Linux is the kernel, the distro is what effects user interface, and distros like Ubuntu are just as straight forward as Windows. Ohh, sorry. Still, people could get Linux and use that for socializing. (01-11-2013, 04:08 AM)i0xIllusi0n Wrote: Notice how you're saying you're training her.. I'm getting the feeling your taking "training" the wrong way. I would still have to train her in Windows If I would have bought that for her. As for your others points, I'm only reading a failure to open one's eyes and see the revolution, the downfall of Windows!
