The SE section - Defeat - 08-21-2022 @Oni 's got 7 pages of suggestions so I'll leave this as the last. Sadly my comment on here - https://sinister.ly/Thread-Undecided-Unregistered-Guest-Users was not provided to me when deleted. Unlike the other sections on the site, it's fine that people can view whenever and not register but that section is 1. the most active portion of the board 2. constantly updating I'm not saying do the stupid hide tags to force people to comment, it'll just bring about spam like @mothered said, but at the very least have people register to view the contents of the section. I like how HF does their entire board, you can view every section's thread titles and lists but you need to login to view the thread itself. Chances are if you're in the SE section, you know what you're looking for, just sign up and look at it. Simple, not requirement based like the NFW section (no one will need to be this poor guy ![]() Anyway, just my thoughts. Remember when you search up social engineering this site's section comes up so either way we'll continue to get visitors here if that's a concern. They'll just have to put 30 seconds aside to view discussions. @group mention@ Let me know your thoughts boys @Nyx @mothered @green314 @vrag @elemenowpee @Nabeshin @johnnyboiog88 @peakyfblinder @K03NT3S31N RE: My last suggestion - The SE section - Jidxja - 08-21-2022 (08-21-2022, 08:38 PM)Canadian Moose Wrote: @Oni 's got 7 pages of suggestions so I'll leave this as the last. my unsolicited opinion is that I wanted to propose this idea before, but I didn't know if you wanted more people to register to the site. It's a really great idea that should be implemented RE: My last suggestion - The SE section - syuh - 08-21-2022 And that would also bring more interaction between users in threads since those guests that now have registered have the possibility to ask questions or answers to others. Laziness is a thing and if you see a question that you could answer but your too lazy to create an account, why should you? You're already on the thread and got what you came for. So if on the other side he had an account, he wouldn't just pass by and interact (hopefully). Just saying my piece here
RE: My last suggestion - The SE section - Andrea Bags - 08-21-2022 I did a lot of lurking before finally joining would probably help a little with saturation RE: My last suggestion - The SE section - Defeat - 08-22-2022 (08-21-2022, 08:45 PM)Jidxja Wrote:As per @Oni "the objective isn't to force people into registering."(08-21-2022, 08:38 PM)Canadian Moose Wrote: @Oni 's got 7 pages of suggestions so I'll leave this as the last. You don't have to post to see it like the giveaway section or NSFW. That way spam isn't increased and more work isn't put on @mothered (08-21-2022, 11:14 PM)Andrea Wrote: I did a lot of lurking before finally joining would probably help a little with saturationyup sometimes I'll check the site and I know there's a counter but I swear it doesn't work lol. I just go on a new/temp Google profile, I tested it. RE: My last suggestion - The SE section - Nabeshin - 08-22-2022 I'm for it, and I'd also prevent topic-content crawling from bots, just a little extra security and privacy IMO RE: My last suggestion - The SE section - green314 - 08-22-2022 (08-22-2022, 08:53 AM)Nabeshin Wrote: I'm for it, and I'd also prevent topic-content crawling from bots, just a little extra security and privacy IMOIt's true, it may be useful also for that. However, may also decrease the activity on the forum, since Thread with no body content --> Bots would index less content from Sinister.ly --> Will be less results of Sinister.ly on the SERP of Google --> Less views and possible future members. I'm not saying that I don't agree, I just say that may be helpful as it may be not. If I had to choose, I would say that more privacy it's always a best things, so I'd say yes to this proposal. No one forbid us to try applying this change for a few months and see what the changes have been at the level of users and indexed content, and then draw conclusions. RE: My last suggestion - The SE section - elemenowpee - 08-24-2022 I am in agreeance with @"Canadian Moose" - registering should be the bear minimum RE: The SE section - Defeat - 08-27-2022 @fractalmind0 @WLT17 @"djduderizx" @Dyne @stevenadams2323 @Ordnael92 @Kaz @LawDogUSA Share some thoughts if you have a min. I'm not advocating that we put a 25post restriction and bring this here ![]() Surprisingly some of those 25 posts he quickly put in to get to the NSFW section were not all bad. Edit: To reiterate: My main concern with the SE section is although saturation is inevitable, if it can be slowed down even just a little bit, why not? I'm not sure if that is do-able, but how about changing the system to the following : Instead of having a minimum ''post requirement'', have a minimum ''time spent on the website'' requirement. It might create more issues to take into consideration (i.e. someone leaving the website open and stay logged in. But an easy fix is to have the website disconnect you automatically if you are inactive for 60+ minutes for example.) |
