Windows 11 - Your Thoughts? - Oni - 10-14-2021

Curious how other members are feeling about Windows 11 a week later. I listed what I've seen the first 10 minutes.

The Good:
  • UI effects are better - rounded corners, background blur on context menus, etc.
  • Icon set is cleaner - crisper and more appealing, with a pop
  • New task view is great - helpful for managing a bunch of processes

The Weird:
  • Everything is centered - including taskbar icons and the lockscreen clock, doesn't fit some wallpapers
  • Start menu has been modified - 11's start menu gets rid of some of the quirks of 10, but brings its own as well
  • Reminds me of Ubuntu's newer UI - might have been 10 years ago, but Ubuntu had modernized their UI

The Bad:
  • They force you to use a Microsoft account initially -  swapping to a local account takes some poking around, creepy
  • Settings and menus have been moved/rearranged - certain menus and settings have been removed or relocated, awkward
  • TPM 2.0 must be enabled for installation - if your motherboard/BIOS is non-compliant it's unsupported, annoying

It's not all that its cracked-up to be, at least in my opinion. The only real improvement over Windows 10 that you'll see is the interface. And even then it's not a great improvement. There's still a lot of inconsistency.

Everything else has either been degraded, or is just a bad feature.

I have been just following it through news so I can't say much but judging based on my experience with 10, I may still wait one more year till 11 is stable. As I experienced with 10 after a year and half many anonying bugs had been fixed so I can depend on it.

I'm still using Windows 7. Smile

I don't like the centered look and feel, but over time, I'd Inevitably adapt to It.

So................ is upgrading to Windows 11 worth it?

RE: Windows 11 - Your Thoughts? - KuhakuWolf - 10-14-2021

I have upgraded my pc to windows 11 and so far i like it, you will eventually adapt to the changes they made so it doesnt matter if its different.
The only downsides are the constant pushing down your throat of edge

The good, the bad.. but is it ugly?
(Excuse my terrible pun, sorry-not sorry.)

I suspect I may take the same approach, though I've not even checked if my machine is compatible.

I've found menus and settings extremely irritating from win8 to win10, so I'd be really curious to see what it's like if it's changed again. I'll remain hopeful... But not that hopeful xD

As others have said, some of the weird and bad points may just be negatives because you're accustomed to something else. We may find we feel differently a year or two down the line.

Really nice review of your experience thus far though Oni, thank you.

RE: Windows 11 - Your Thoughts? - Oni - 10-14-2021

So far I've decided to stick with it. For me the pro and cons even out, with the tiebreaker being that Windows 10 has an EOL.

RE: Windows 11 - Your Thoughts? - msch0ft - 10-14-2021

Windows 11 has a cool UI.

Other than that, it is the same microsoft crap again and again. Less privacy, more restrictions, tighter control. If you don't care about privacy, but enjoy security and microsoft services, it's pretty good.

I will be using my windows 10 gaming partition from now until EOL. I have already decided that windows 10 will be the last windows I use. I am tired of this OS.
