Cowboy Bebop Live Action - Premiere Announced - Oni - 08-24-2021

It's officially announced. Cowboy Bebop's live action will premiere on November 19th. Hopefully it does well, though I'm not holding my breath.

Quote:Netflix has announced that its long-delayed, live-action adaptation of the influential and popular classic anime series Cowboy Bebop will premiere on Friday, November 19.
The streaming service also released the first images from the show, giving fans some sense of what to expect from a live-action series based on an animated one famous for its visual flair.

The images show actor John Cho (Star Trek, Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle) as the series' lead character, Spike Spiegel. The series will also star Alex Hassell (Suburbicon), Daniella Pineda (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), and Mustafa Shakir (Luke Cage), among others.

André Nemec will be the series showrunner. He previously worked as a writer and producer on sci-fi TV series Alias and Zoo, plus the 2014 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. The director of the original anime series, Shinichirō Watanabe, is a consultant for the new show. Also returning from the anime is score composer Yoko Kanno.

Hope they're just gonna have fun with it, living up to the expectations of the original will be nearly impossible, maybe they can introduce some new things with the characters we love which would be best case scenario in my opinion.

As long as they bring life to the characters they play, it's a good thing in my book. If they manage to bring something interesting to the table, it shouldn't need to live up to the name of the anime.

I would hate to see such a classic be stained with a live action, considering how most turn out

I agree, but it's best to approach these things with low expectations. Pretend it's a highschool play if you want.

Genshin Impact's latest update includes a pretty big Bebop reference...

"Swordfish II" is the name of Spike's ship.

I've just seen a couple of live actions, but they always end up so bad in my opinion. I don't really feel like its possible to capture the anime "spirit" in live actions

Anime adaptation to live-action is usually shiz. I have zero expectations.

RE: Cowboy Bebop Live Action - Premiere Announced - Drako - 09-03-2021

I refuse to acknowledge live actions. Especially from the west. They're usually poorly made, and try to follow the anime/manga way too strictly. So I don't have high hopes for this one either.

And there's already a lot of controversy surrounding Faye Valentine's costume in this live action. I'm personally not a big fan of the decision. If you want to make a good live action, you need costumes to be as 1:1 as possible. And to make matters worse, the actress, Daniella Pineda, has been nasty and hypocritical towards fans throughout this debacle.

They've made a few decisions that ignore original appearances already (i.e. Mustafa as Jet). Faye's outfit is iconic, but it's hard to imagine a 30 year old woman actually wearing it. Pineda's been in various states of undress for other films, so I don't think that is the issue. I'm alright with the jacket look personally.
