may i have some advice on what code should i learn? - xerophily - 08-23-2020
So with this pandemic i stay home a lot, other than SE i would like to develope a new skill for myself, coding. However when i look up what kind of codes there are i see a lot of options, which makes me dont know how to choose. I believe learning resource wont be a problem because there are a lot of learning materials online. My main goal of coding is maybe able to take those freelance job online and work at home. Thanks for the advice!

There are a bunch of languages you could learn. It depends on your interests and needs.
Here's some professional advise for starters:
1. Desktop application development: Most common ones are Java and C#(.net)
2. Backend web development: Python, java, javascript
3. Frontend web development: Javascript, typescript
4. Mobile app development: Kotlin, Objective-C
5. Machine Learning related: Python

If you want to make desktop applications, C++/C#/VB.Net are some of the options.
For languages that bear more similarity, a lot of skills transfer over. More importantly, your mindset and problem-solving skills will develop. If I were you, I'd decide what you're interested in actually creating. If you're interested in security, that's great. However, I'd recommend focusing on learning a language before worrying about security. It's significantly harder to pick a lock if you don't know how a lock is supposed to function.
