VPN to bypass School Restrictions? - Hysho - 11-22-2019

In my school, we have a system that prevents students from using certain pages. The only VPN I saw that worked all the time is Hotspot shield. A few VPNs I kept a note of that don't work are NordVPN, Windscribe, and TunnelBear.
Any VPNs you recommend for Linux that can get around this?

You can try ProtonVPN, ExpressVPN, AirVPN or Surfshark.

Alternatively, If configured correctly, "proxy chaining" will circumvent restrictions quite easily.

Have you determined the criteria for why Hotspot works, but the others don't? May be able to give suggestions.

they block the port this is the reason. Cool

It could be a number of reasons, such as packet filtering, security rules defined In their firewall, application control signatures and the list goes on.

That aside, I do agree that blocking ports could be the case.

Try ZenMate VPN - Works great for me.

ZenMate does In fact work well with ExpressVPN, without compatibility Issues.

This can then be used with the Tor network, namely Tor over VPN. The connection will be "VPN > Tor (Entry Node) > Middle Node > Exit Node > Destination/Website". As an added layer of anonymity, apply bridges at the entry node.

I find that I can bypass firewalls pretty easy with IPvanish. Its more expensive than others though. If you get a VPN, try secure port numbers like 443 and see if that lets it go through. You might fiddle with the advanced setting until something works.

If you really want to get a good VPN and are willing to pay for it:

Purchase a VPS Hosting. ($5)
Create your own VPN services in Windows 2012 or use OpenVPN to establish a network.
Connect from school to the VPN network you've created and you can use it without being filtered by school networks
