Requiring login to view content - Redbull - 03-30-2013

Would you ever hide your forum for guests? Does that discourage or encourage people to register and stay? Is it good for business?

I'd recommend against doing this in almost every case. It's terrible for SEO and offers absolutely no benefits. People are going to be less inclined to register to see what's hidden than those who can see what's there and like what they see. The only reason you'd do this is if your content wasn't for public eyes.

I would never disable guests privledges for viewing the forum. Guests are allowed to view everything but not profiles, nor can they post.

This. And nowadays guest posting privileges are becoming more and more apparent.

I was considering this, but for now, no.

Yeah, I don't think it would be suitable here anyway. Lure them in with content and make it hard for them not to register. Tongue

I have never seen a forum that people can post without registering that is just weird lol.

It works quite well for some sites. You ever been on a thread and wanted to reply but didn't because you couldn't be bothered registering?

Precisely, which is why in some contexts, it's useful to allow guests to post. :p
