why I am asking this question right. This is an discussion topic.

does anybody know this answer?

The "oldest" would be Fortran but I'm not really sure if it was available for the public.
Other than that I'd say Assembly.

Plankalkül (Plan Calculus), created by Konrad Zuse for the Z3 computer in Nazi Germany, may have been the first programming language (other than assemblers). This was a surprisingly advanced programming language, with many features that didn't appear again until the 1980s.

The first high-level programming language that we know of is the IBM Mathematical Formula Translating System, or Fortran for short.

to be honest I never played with Fortran. My first programming language was QBasic.

Oh great
I've never used QBasic , how is it ?

it was fun. but I also use Pascal as well to when in year 97 I was in 10 grade in high school.

Which language are your using nowadays?

RE: what is the oldest programming language? - Blink - 04-04-2019

Well, it depends how you define programming language.

If you define it as a usable programming language, it's quite obviously the machine language of the first computer. How one defines 'first computer' varies. One option is the ENIAC machine language.

If machine code and assembly doesn't count then you have Plankalkül and if you need a compiler then here... If you want a commercial compiler though then it's FORTRAN.

If theoretical languages count, then you have the idea of Turing machines but moreso you can simply describe algorithms in your native language.
