Hi all members,

I am wondering where Mac address is registered and can be tracked by it.

for example, if I download a messenger (like a WhatsApp) and register,
the company will know my Mac address?

and if I use virtual machine like VMware fusion and download some programs
will that be more safe and anonymous?

my last question is,
when you upload pics from your HDD to for example Twitter or facebook,
any possibility that your HDD path - let's say my computer name is John Doe - johndoe/download/pics/picture-name
will be leaked in anywhere?

im trying to be more secure and anonymous so please let me learn more even if it sounds paranoid lol

1. Generally speaking, the MAC address on a given device, does not leave the local/Internal network.
For example:

* Your device connects to your Router- It's your Router's MAC address that's In question.
* Your Router connects to your ISP, and they have the Router's MAC address.
* Your ISP connects to It's destination- It's the ISP's MAC address that's disclosed.

2. A VM uses the hardware from the Host machine, so that can be Identified. For example, It uses the Graphics card & driver from the Host system, so the VM's Virtual GPU will be based on the GPU of the Host, hence can be fingerprinted.

3. Yes, some servers do contain the directory of where the file was uploaded. "Never" use default directories, nor any Identifiable Information pertaining to the directory Itself.
