pet birds (and showing off my babies) #1
figured id see if anyone else here has pet birds. in my life i am known to friends for being obsessed with a few things, mainly computers (but arent we all) and my pet birds.

For the longest time I had 3 cockatiels. One was my partners, and then we got two rescues from a pet store that had to close down because they abused animals. the number stayed at 3 for the past 2 years until i noticed two of mine getting frisky (if you know what i mean  Wink) I wanted some babies so i started getting them nest boxes and after a few months the female laid 4 eggs! now those babies are 5 weeks old and it's been so educational to watch them grow from these tiny, ugly fleshy things to nearly fully grown birds.

my lovely babies... i would do anything for them.

and now, something quite funny has happened. I always though I had 2 males and 1 female, and then a few days ago i caught my two males getting frisky... I know birds can be gay so i thought maybe they were just having some springtime fun. wrong! I couldnt find my one "male" one day. looked all over, and finally found "him" under the shelf my computer sits on... sitting on an egg! my male was actually a female, and my actual male managed to knock up two birds. now ive given my surprise female a nest and she's laid two eggs. looks like I get round two of babies a lot sooner than i figured!

If anyone has any questions about baby cockatiels or what it's like to raise them, ask away. and, im always interested in hearing from people who own birds other than cockatiels and what that's like.

I had a pair of cockatiels years ago, they were really pretty/energetic birds. I had to give them to a friend when I moved to Brazil and now I'm too busy to have a pet.

They're gorgeous.

The only birds I've had the pleasure of owning, were pigeons who were trained to leave and arrive home almost the same time each day.

I trained them by tying parts of their wings to the point where they couldn't fly over a meter or so- just to get used to their home environment.

After around 4-5 weeks, they were released and knew precisely where they belong. They'd leave early In the morning and arrive back late In the evening.
