Allow me to put FitGirl here.

No one can guarantee safe files, but through personal relations, I know that their team doesn't intentionally infect users and try to keep their service as clean as possible.
They can. I knew someone whose spreading method was silent miners in otherwise working games on those websites. It took forever for gamers to figure it out. They couldn't differentiate the game's load from the miner's load. Who could have told the computers weren't only working on high-graphic games but mining, too? However, other hackers I know tend to follow the rule of not sh*tting the place where you're eating. I'm a gamer and I haven't ever spread through gaming websites.

That's pretty interesting, the concept of masking miners through the game's high resource usage.

It makes sense if you're a non-gamer hacker. Games tend to use computer resources heavily. Gamers have a hard time figuring their computers aren't noisy because of the games, but because of the games and miners. I understand why hackers, who aren't concerned with the gaming community's health, choose this way to distribute their malware. I care because I play (and crack) games, and I want to preserve this market.
