iOS 11 - 11.1.2 jailbreak - Electra #1
Today marked the release of probably the last jailbreak we will ever see from one of the old core devs. From here out, expect the chinese to be the only ones making them. It's called Electra, and it's pretty different from other jailbreaks. Cydia isn't the focus of this, it's a development jailbreak. It's possible that Cydia is functional now, but don't count on it, all of the betas didn't even include it (for good reason). Anyways, just figured I'd share with you all.

When saying "the old core devs" are you saying Ian or Coolstar. I don't know about Ian but I do know the Coolstar never really was one of the core devs, despite the work he made being incredible.

Looks pretty good, and if I can get my hands on an iPhone to test this on with this version, I'm definitely going to look into this.

Do you know why the old core devs wont be working on it anymore?

It's harder, and Cydia is becoming more useless by the second.

Friendly iOS exploitation is something that I've considered getting into, but I keep pushing off in favor of software developmen and other things (CPU design is fun as hell, I really need to get an FPGA)

Coolstar is part of that group, always has been, since 2009-10

No. It's not because it's harder, it's not really any more difficult than it used to be, it's just different. We stopped caring about jailbreaks because Apple implemented everything we wanted in the first place.

I was going to add that Apple made dev certs free, so that's one less reason to jailbreak

Free dev certs are still really limited. I've always kept a paid one, even though to date I've only released 3 apps. You get a lot more flexibility with a paid one. For example, you can now sideload applications (no longer need to rebuild from source), but with a free cert you have to reinstall every 7 days, with a paid one its once a year

Downgrading has been possible in the past due to exploitations in how the operating system itself was signed, these issues were patched circa 2012/3, so no, no way to downgrade, probably never.
