Windows XP - System accont - The Power User #1
Hello World,
I've created a simple tutorial on how to access the most powerful account on Windows XP, an account superseding the Administrator account.
Follow the steps, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask, I'll try my best to answer.
First of all, a WARNING, this is the most powerful account on Windows XP, and if you are familiar to Unix systems, then this is equivalent to the Root account. BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHAT YOU DO!!! I won't be responsible for lost data.
First off,
1) Check your account name, by clicking Start.
It should say something like Joe Bloggs, Timothy, Heather, etc.
2)Launch a command prompt: "Start" -> "Run" -> cmd -> press enter
3) In the Command Prompt, create a schedule to run cmd.exe:
type the following line and hit enter:
at 99:99 /interactive “cmd.exe”
(this will create a schedule to run cmd.exe at 99:99)

Obviously there is no such time, so check your system time and add a couple of minutes (as you still have a few things to do). At the specified time, your new command prompt should pop up.

NOTE: you can check if the schedule is placed by typing “at“
and hitting enter after the above step.

4) Then press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to launch Windows Task Manager.
5) Select the “Process” tab, then find and click explorer.exe in the process list.
6) Press the “End Process” button. You will receive a confirmation dialogue basiclly warning you that you can damage your computer if you don't know what you are doing. Click “Yes” to end the process (Things will disappear: DO NOT WORRY!).
7) Close the Task Manager and the first Command Prompt (This is very important). Now you only have the command prompt window and an empty desktop.
8) In the Command Prompt, type:
cd ..
("cd" means change drive; ".." means up one folder in the system hierarchy)
9) hit enter, then type:
explorer.exe
(this launches the general windows setup)

If this is the first time you do this, windows creates the necessary
components for you to access the System account (Desktop, start menu, My Documents, etc.) and when it’s finished you will have a new desktop!

10) Close command prompt window.
11) Click start and check your username.
It’s changed to System. Congrats!

REMINDER: YOU HAVE NOW GOT SYSTEM CONTROL, BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL!
***************************************************************

Now, that you are the most powerful user, you have access to many more files than usual, effectively all and also allows you to easily access other accounts on the computer. Just go to C:\Documents and Settings\ and evey account on the computer can be accessed there now.
