Windows KB5003173 Update Won't Install If You've Removed Microsoft Edge 05-26-2021, 06:39 PM

I myself just encountered this error when I was trying to install a recent patch for Windows 10, KB5003173. The update would download and "install" while Windows was running, but after a restart, the message "We couldn't complete the changes, Undoing changes" would appear. Thankfully it only took me a few minutes of research to get to the root of the problem. And without fail, Microsoft still continues to amuse me. The update fails if the user has uninstalled Microsft Edge in the past. You can do so by using a Third-Party uninstaller, or a script like Windows10Debloater.
The fix for this is quite simple though. All you need to do is navigate to 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\' and delete the 'Edge' folder. For some reason, uninstalling Edge causes this update to fail. I really don't understand why the update can't just overwrite the folder itself, but whatever.
After the update completed, Edge has been fully reinstalled, again, and pinned to my taskbar, again. I am begging you, please just use Linux. I don't care if you use Ubuntu, LFS, or something inbetween. Anything is better than Windows 10.
