Why do we feel fear? #1
I've long-held the thought that fear is only part instinctive and is 80% inheritance. It's in your genes passed down over generation upon generation of family until it reaches you.
But what I wonder is where did the fear come from? and why?

Here's an extract from a creepypasta known as Genetic Memory.
Quote:Many classic horror icons, such as Giger’s Xenomorphs, Silent Hill’s Pyramid Head, and other disturbing creatures, share common characteristics. Pale skin, dark, sunken eyes, elongated faces, sharp teeth, and the like. These images inspire horror and revulsion in many, and with good reason. The characteristics shared by these faces are imprinted in the human mind.
Many things frighten humans instinctively. The fear is natural, and does not need to be reinforced in order to terrify. The fears are species-wide, stemming from dark times in the past when lightning could mean the burning of your tree home, thunder could be the approaching gallops of a stampede, predators could hide in darkness, and heights could make poor footing lethal.

The question you have to ask yourself is this:

What happened, deep in the hidden eras before history began, that could effect the entire human race so evenly as to give the entire species a deep, instinctual, and lasting fear of pale beings with dark, sunken eyes, razor sharp teeth, and elongated faces?

What are your thoughts on this?
I find it unexplainable but I still get curious as to how and why we feel fear around certain creatures, objects and attributes.

Thoughts?
Everyone give me your personal philosophy on the matter! Wink

As a student of science, I would disagree about genetic inheritance. Fear's purely instinctive. It's all a part of the way our mindset is. My family members don't have fear of things which have been inherited. Fear is based on some unpleasant or tragic memory.

Let me give you an example.
If you take a newborn baby who has already met their mother and father and is living in the hospital the day after birth. If you take a picture of Jeff the Killer and place it in front of the baby then wake them up to see it they are likely to start crying. Why? Because they have no idea what it is.
Why do we fear the unknown?

We feel fear because deep inside there is something called a Pussy cell. Now in the pussy cell it releases hormones that causes a human being to feel what we call fear. This " Fear " actually doesnt exist. There is actually a way to cure yourself of this pussy cell. To rid yourself of the pussy cell you need to jump off a bridge, or do something you may " Fear. " Once your done you will rid yourself of fear, and possibly your life.

The pussy cell is no joke and should not be taken kindly
