By definition, pride means "a sense of one's own proper dignity or value; self-respect." Wouldn't a more fitting sin be arrogance?

Quote:3) You don't 'shit' in heaven. Tongue

I worded that sentence terribly. I mean shit as in "other things". Wink

Quote:And you cannot be forgiven on your deathbed.

How is that so? Even a serial killer can be 'saved' if he repents sincerely on his deathbed...

Well, the religions were created ages ago so 'pride' was probably translated from something. Or defined another way.

2) oh Tongue

3) No, according to Islam, you can be forgiven for (almost) anything in your life but on your deathbed, you cannot.

Islam and Christianity aren't the same things. Why do Catholic priests visit the terminally ill and try to convert people when they're dying?

I have no idea. Why?

For this reason, I think if you're going to do it, you should carefully select the religion you want in your life. Some people will sadly be 'born into' a religious view, but those wise enough will one day make a decision on their religious views.

Those who were indoctrinated into the religion rarely step out of it for a couple of reasons.
  • When you are thought something as a child it grows deep roots into the person you are, a person who was born into Christianity will step back into it.
In my case I was born into Christianity but, I was always destined to be the adversary of this religion. I never felt welcome in it or felt that this religion would have helped me in anyway and the outdated and primitive rules and morality were very useless to me. I have never feared hell or anything they did warn me about. When I took the life changing decision to be a Satanist my life took off like a rocket, the philosophy of Satanism is to over achieve in anything you love, to progress to be more. Christianity tells you to fear and not fight for your survival.

Quote:For a religion supposedly based on the gospel of 'love', Christianity is actually based on a system of fear. You shall fear the devil, you shall fear hell. To someone with absolutely zero knowledge of religion or Christianity, this hardly seems to be a warm welcoming.

For anything to have power it needs the fear of the people, the way Christianity plays out is very effective indeed, what better way to make loyal sheep than to make them fear everything and make them believe that without God you are nothing but a condemned soul?

Quote:Secondly, the ten commandments seem seriously dated and superficial. No murdering, no adultery, no stealing. Those I can agree with. But then it starts talking about your neighbour? It seems as though when the ten commandments was written, the only important things were not stealing and not fucking with your neighbour... Can I go to the people down the road whom I wouldn't consider my neighbour and fuck his donkey? I realise these were probably written in a metaphorical sense, but still. It seems bizarre and there's nothing to establish whether it was intended to be taken literally or figuratively. The whole list of commandments seems very nonsensical and I'm sure there are other values we should put more consideration into.

Unlike all other bibles Christianity was intended to be open to interpretation, which is why a lot of people aftered on it and committed murders. “I come not with peace but, with a sword” That can be interpreted as a very negative action, it could tell you that your duty as a Christian is to kill others and so on. Have you noticed that many of the serial killers are actually Christians? I believe there was a murderer that read a bible verse before killing anybody, that could have been avoided if the bible was written in a manner that was simple and not try to seem like a very smart book.

Quote:Why is it that 'pride' is a sin? I can't get over this. Without pride, we surely won't achieve any degree of quality in our work. It only makes sense to take pride in what we do. Once again, very poorly worded or perhaps completely dated. Same goes for 'envy'. Envy inspires and motivates us making us more productive and potentially successful. Lust, seriously? Why would we believe in a religion that promotes something so counter-intuitive. Lust is hard-wired into us through chemicals and hormones. It really seems ridiculous to go against yourself as a natural, carnal animal.

Oh the massive irony, pride is a sin yes but, it is meant for the Christian to not think he is better than God, since God is an envious, jealous and prideful entity he does not want his followers to think they are better than him, “Love God above all things” Apparently that was sent by God himself to Moses.

When God claims he is everything, the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end, to a Christian that is facts but to a person who uses logic that is called “Massive ego inflation” because it is. God is nothing more than a mythological cocky prick.

Also Jesus was truly his son, he claimed to be the King of Kings. Prideful isn't he? He also said that we should love him more than your own family. Damn that is not pride?

Quote:Oh yeah, the concept of 'forgiveness' is ridiculous to me as well. This was particularly well talked about by Evangelist when he interviewed a Christian priest. In Christianity, you're not allowed to do a bunch of things. But if you do break the rules because you don't give a fuck, did so accidentally, or aren't really a true Christian like 95% of Christians will claim, you can be forgiven and all is well. We all know you're going to fuck your neighbour's donkey again. But that's okay, because god will forgive you over and over again.

Actually he interviewed me.

Quote:In fact, since the only benefit of being a Christian is that you get to go chill out in heaven, drink wine with the angels and shit for the rest of eternity, you may as well do whatever the fuck you like now and ask for forgiveness on your deathbed. Because we all know god will forgive you. Why not have the best of both worlds?

Heaven is worse than hell. You would be grouped with a lot of people who are overly nice and we all know that 15 seconds with a person like that is hell, imagine a eternity?

Quote:Perhaps Christianity would have been appropriate a thousand years ago where we were all far less educated and didn't have a sense of logic. But in today's society, living a life of abstinence while clinging to the false hope that Jesus will return and all will be well just seems ridiculous and unproductive.

Christianity is in fact outdated and the people are smarter now than they were a thousand years ago, this is why the number of Atheists are increasing on a daily basis.

Quote:All I'm saying is, if you're Christian, perhaps consider converting yourself to something more modern. Yeah, wearing a cross around your neck and praying and being a 'part of something' as well as 'believing something greater exists' is all well and good. But you don't need to call yourself a Christian to do that.

Yes they do, if they don’t wear a label their praises will be ignored by god. You are either a Christian or you will burn in hell.

Quote:Instead, consider what's valuable to you. What do you want? Do you want success and/or happiness? And do you really need a Christian belief set to help you achieve your goals?

It won’t help anybody, Christianity teaches you to give up everything that helps you and makes you happy for god. That doesn’t seem like a life I would dedicate myself to live. I am my own God and I decide what I want.

I think Christianity seems like an odd religion is because it's corrupt. Some Christians know that their religion is corrupt but that's their excuse of living freely.

Others have complete knowledge that their religion is flawed but don't change because they're afraid of hell etc. Some will stay with Christianity forever simply because that's all they've ever known. As Evangelist said, he belief system is deep in their roots.

It's really, really, pathetic on why Christians know that their religion is corrupt even though they still continue to live by that. I mean, why not look on the bright side? Why not choose a religion that your gut thinks it's true.

Couple of reasons.
1. Herd conformity - Most people tend to go with the "flow" and remain a Christian because all of their friends and family are of the same religion

2. Lack of strength and leadership - 99% of the people rather get told what to do instead of making the choice themselves

3. Lethargy - People are lazy and do not take religion seriously enough to even bother and research other ones.

Honestly, Christianity seems like nothing more than a religion based on control and not just fear. If you were to compare all the religions(Buddhism, The one that muslims praise, Catholicism, Christianity, pastafarianism, etc) you can see that Christianity is by far the most Strict, Fear inducing and suppressing religion to have EVER been invented.

If I was to actually believe in religion and God and whatnot, I would never EVER choose to be a Christian. I'd rather believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster before God honestly.

I made a Flying Spaghetti Monster reference in school one day, and from that day on I was a God-hater who worshiped The Flying Spaghetti Monster.

My professor in the religion class is extremely religious. I'm just listening. Interesting to see how they view everything.

The reason the Bible is credible is because they've found manuscripts approx. 25 years later that some of the supposed events happened. Meanwhile, other texts are written thousands of years later, where stories are bound to be twisted an exaggerated. He also believed there was no reason to make up the stories in the Bible, as someone (don't remember who) died for what he said. Someone in the class claimed that making up the writings had no benefit to him and why would he allow his life to be taken over something that he made up and could have admitted?

I believe I also heard him say that his version of the Bible had no contradictions.
"If you look for the light, you can often find it. But if you look for the dark, that is all you will ever see.”
