I believe this should apply to all facets of computing.

Once I fully comprehend a given task In It's entirety, I then tackle the next project. Inundating yourself, can sometimes defeat the purpose of learning.

If you like Kali Linux, you'll enjoy Parrot OS.

Im gonna give parrot a try.

I was just about to say kali is a good if you want to poke around with some of the tools for fun, like metasploit or password crackers, and I know people who use it to participate in some CTFs. Other than that debian and ubuntu are def super popular

I definitely agree with your comment on Kali Linux.

When you get a moment (no rush), I'd like to read your thoughts on Parrot OS. I have that, as well as Kali Linux (and many others) Installed on my VM, and quite happy with both.

I just picked up some high speed 3.0 low profile usb drives, and will install parrot on one of them later this week when they arrive. I can't wait actually.

I have been learning about the tools in kali and simply getting the basics down, like installing and running, learning the context of the tools. I admit having issues running windows, and attempting to get the iso to work on various media... rather windows os or linux. I guess we all start somewhere, and not every attempt may work. I finally got it down though after clearing my expectations that I will get it right every time. Literally, after dozens of attempts, I can finally say I got it, and how to fix errors in the boot loader, etc. that was fun to learn actually. I actually felt like I was getting it. Now I can get usb persistence with encryption and use that for kali and parrot, cubes or tails... likely all four. I have one other usb drive I will install a dual iso, maybe one for windows and the other a basic linux distro for non anom shit...

I still need to get a real version of windows 7 pro or ultimate and cant figure out how to either get a legit hack or which product to purchase, as I want a retail key that I can install on any computer, with a disc... I dont mind making the disc myself from an iso, anyway, that and making a custom linux kernel, I am soon to ready up for that maybe this winter. I like that linux can be customized like that, and it really twists my nipples, you know, for a kid that likes puzzles but may not be a genius or anything, just bright. Its alluring. A new world. I do see the power and think methodically, very dangerous for me to have these tools and be able to use them, and with confidence of not getting caught.

Here's direct download links for multiple Windows 7 ISOs.

Use the "Windows 7 Loader by Daz" to activate It. You'll find It on every major torrent site- It's yet to fail me.
