Which type of Linux should I install? #1
I'm a beginner to Linux and want to try it out.
I know there are different types of Linux and am confused on which one to try out first.
Any recommendations?

When I first started out with Linux, I began with Debian, and have always used Debian. I highly recommend downloading and installing it. It will take you a long time to fully adjust to the Linux environment, but once you spend hours upon hours solving issues with your system and spending months becoming comfortable with it, it will all have been worth it in the end.

I've always been primarily debian, although I've used and enjoyed Fedora, Ubuntu, and a good few others. I really enjoyed playing with Elementary OS for a really beautiful UI. Red Hat is great to in an enterprise/professional environment.

Stating the obvious, until you conclusively decide, do use a VM for testing purposes.

Rather than starting from scratch each and every time, create a single VHD and place It In another directory. When the need comes to Install another OS, simply copy the VHD, mount It and hit the Installation thereafter.

If you plan on utilizing a given Linux distro In the Virtual Machine, once you've configured the OS, do the same with the VHD. In the event your Linux OS corrupts, It'll literally take 2 minutes to mount and bootup the backup VHD of Linux.

Thanks. I don't quite understand what you're saying, but once I install the Linux vm and set it up, can I ask you questions via pm?

Apologies, I should've simplified It.

Sure thing, I can assist with any questions relative to all types of VMs. When you're ready, shoot me a PM.

Update: considering using either cubeos or kali Linux. Want to prioritize privacy and customization

Are those two good picks for what I'm looking for?

if you want Privacy use Tails https://tails.boum.org/
if you want to Hack, dont use Kali or backtrack, its better to set up your own debian
and for beginners i prefer linux mint to start in the linux world
