Which type of Linux should I install? 07-12-2018, 07:08 PM
#1
I'm a beginner to Linux and want to try it out.
I know there are different types of Linux and am confused on which one to try out first.
Any recommendations?

I've always been primarily debian, although I've used and enjoyed Fedora, Ubuntu, and a good few others. I really enjoyed playing with Elementary OS for a really beautiful UI. Red Hat is great to in an enterprise/professional environment.

Stating the obvious, until you conclusively decide, do use a VM for testing purposes.
Rather than starting from scratch each and every time, create a single VHD and place It In another directory. When the need comes to Install another OS, simply copy the VHD, mount It and hit the Installation thereafter.
If you plan on utilizing a given Linux distro In the Virtual Machine, once you've configured the OS, do the same with the VHD. In the event your Linux OS corrupts, It'll literally take 2 minutes to mount and bootup the backup VHD of Linux.

Update: considering using either cubeos or kali Linux. Want to prioritize privacy and customization
Are those two good picks for what I'm looking for?
