well... yes you could do this if you were trying to do it as a joke, or an excel exploit, or if you were trying to do some complex processing in an excel doc.

The truth is much more complicated than that, and if you want to talk about the evolution of different programming language families, that discussion will be littered with the corpses of dead languages. This link may be of interest if you want to learn about the real mothers of the programming languages we have today:

Except thats completely incorrect. Also if it was (which it isnt) it would be better to go with C or C++ anyway.

Or BASIC/FORTRAN. Not dead( I have had to work in FORTRAN in the past year ), but certainly antiquated.

My dad used to write in fortran. It was really popular in the 80s

I'd imagine so, unless he tries to force you into it when you're not made for it.

I was imagining that if I had a programmer dad, He would teach me all kinds of impressive stuff he knows and we would be really close to each other and spending quality time programming. Also it would be much fun being taught by your dad rather than reading through books or on the internet all by yourself. Smile

Depends on your learning style. My dad is awesome, but I can't learn anything from him, because I don't learn through instruction, I learn from doing things on my own. Or, for things like work and related, I learn through mimicry.

It would give you an advantage if he made you start at a very young age, however if he doesn't then it would just be spoonfeeding just like in uni.

Lolno. My dad is a Ph.D, he never spoonfed me his area of expertise, and I didn't get interested until secondary school. Intelligent people know what it means to teach.
