Curious to know where the people who are more experienced learned to design. I'm looking to pick up some basic graphics design skills (mostly vector art) because it looks fun to do and I think I'd be able to use it in my web development career, but I really have no clue where to start.

Anyone know of any good resources I could pick up to start learning? Also, how long would it take a complete beginner to get fairly decent at it?
