Whats better? A Gaming headset? Or a professional Mic and headphones? #1
Headphone and Mic. I owned a Corsair 1500 v2 for 3 years, and it always felt like something was missing. I finally decided it was time to upgrade as my 1500s were falling apart, and what I have now, the difference is like night and day. My ATH-M50x's and AT-2020USB+ might be expensive, but the money was worth it. The M50x's are crystal clear, even better than my 1500's, and the MIC is solid, has killer quality sound, and has a real time playblack, so you don't feel deaf. I cannot go back. So what do you guys think? Is studio hardware worth it? Or will you stick to gaming headsets?

If all you're doing is gaming, gaming headsets are generally good enough for that purpose.

If you are looking to record or stream, definitely headphones and mic.

I have headphones and a studio mic, not that I use it a lot though. I just like to have a seperate mic. Don't like headsets a lot, unless they're good enough to rap/record videos in too.

That's a choice that's hard to make and is up to the user, as headsets generarily offer everything packed in a more "compact" setup, compared to having multiple devices when using separate headphones and microphone. For some the audio quality is more important and then the second option would be the better, as good quality headphones offer audio that's wayy better and it's the choice I would personally make. However, with certain headsets like the HyperX Cloud or the Sennheiser Game Zero, the audio quality is still decent and is a good choice.

My own personal setup isn't all that great right now and consist of a pair of Sony MDR-1A headphones that sound absolutely amazing for the price I paid, but the bad part is the microphone which is a shitty Trust OEM microphone. I'm going to get something better soon when money allows me to, such as the Blue Yeti, but that's something that will have to wait for a while.

If you only do gaming, then you should give the Astro A40 TR a try (You can get it without the MixAmp for like 170$ and the TR version is customizable with mod kits and tags, can all be made custom on their official site).

From what I've heard, Astro is just overpriced and doesn't offer anything special in particular when it comes to audio quality. There's definitely better options around for 170 or cheaper, such as Sennheiser Game Zero or HyperX Cloud.

I have a Astro A40 TR and it sounds great, bass is good aswell. Same for the mic, you don't hear the background noises, I was playing loud music and my friend on Skype didn't hear it at all, even though he had his volume on max.

I mean, it solely depends of the purpose towards it's usage. If you're going to just merely play games, then I'd suggest to use the headphones. It's more practical, and efficient when trying to transport. Though, the microphone obviously is the right option when it comes to streaming / recording. Thus, it depends on what you're going to use it for.
