The obvious choice for most people, and myself, would be MyBB, mainly because it's a free forum software. Other than that, I would go with vBulletin or XenForo.

MyBB is good because it's so flexible.
Look what Blue has done with this forum, it's insane.
I'm sure there is others that have helped with it..!

IPB for me.
Been using IPB a little over a year now, and MyBB for almost a year. IPB is by far my favorite forum software, and the best paid forum software.

Im in love with MyBB. but ive herd vB is better. IMO MyBB is the best software. Its noob friendly and easy to use.
I've also used IPB, but don't like it.
