What do you think about the update? #1
Hey SL,

What do you think about the update? I myself personally think that the paid upgrades is a step too far. Yes, I understand that despite the legends, @Oni the vampire does not have unlimited funds but I once admired SL for how it awarded ranks for dedication and activity instead of 'amount donated'. I know it took me almost a year to get S.Elite and now all that's left of the effort is an orange name. I can't even see my own contributions.
Despite that, I think the rest of it's alright. The rep system... meh. I want to know, honestly, what you think about the update.

hmm... I side with you, in that while I do like the paid ranks to a degree, currently I have only seen "legends" posts, so it doesn't quite feel as inclusive as I'm sure our uncontested leader @Oni thought it would.

And now I never even got to S.Elite, pity.

The rep system got fucked over by everyone's given rep being reset to one, except (I assume) @Oni's and the other mods'

The Legends usergroup would be one of the most rare usergroups in the future as there would be really few having those in according to the members going to reqister and stay active if this ever gets big which I believe it would. It was a neat upgrade and beautiful for oldfags.

Totally agree with you on this yet Oni deserved to start selling instead of giving it out for posting. Since he couldn't always stay be stuck in giving it to people who only posts for the upgrade. I completely understand why he did it and it would also benefit Sinisterly. One day every legend member will appreciate the rank as one day it also will be rare and popular.

It's to keep certain things organized instead of having a huge amount of reputation, reputation should matter not like other websites where 100-500 reputation doesn't make it such a big deal yet on the other side in Sinisterly after the reputation update there was a new thing. Where a smaller amount of reputation was available and shows more reputation by more members instead of a huge amount of reputation by one certain member.

I like it. Then again I have money to throw at upgrades, but in reality it really wasn't that hard to get to Super Elite so after about another 6 months anyone here now would have gotten it as long as they stayed active. Legends is pretty much just gonna be the old fags of SL, and instead of looking at registration date people are gonna see 'Legends' on your profile and know that you're the real deal OG. I thing I really like about the update is how expensive the upgrades are, so being upgraded is going to require quite a bit of dedication to actually get yourself to throw such a large sum of cash at Gold, and not many people are going to be Gold. As for the ads, I think it was a good step to make, and now Oni won't be spending his own pocket money on the site and he can enjoy himself and play Sims 4 Limited Edition. All jokes aside and pretty much a TL;DR I like the new update because now upgrades are a very prestige thing, there are gonna be more things to do with your points rather than spend them on upgrades and now I feel happy that Oni will have a good amount of pocket change to enjoy himself with.

Adblock is a thing, and idgaf about upgrades or rep.

Sooooo I really don't care. I understand that it costs money to run a medium sized forum such as this, and oni has to get the funds some how.

If you ask me, I kinda sort of agree with your statement about S.Elite. However, if this site does blow up(which I personally think it will), then the Legends group really lets you know the oldfags from the newfags and it'll be quite the prestigious rank. So I guess we're kind of being rewarded for our 5,000SL payments. Plus @Oni said that we'll be getting some new privileges so I'd also take that as a bonus. I'm rather conflicted about Legends but I think it's a decent change.

And however much I miss the old SL where we were all very, VERY close, the site is becoming more active and there are more people joining everyday. Even though our good Oni is a well off man, he's not like Omniscient where he makes most of his livings off of the site. So I knew this was going to happen eventually, plus even back in the oSL(old SL), people wanted to be able to pay for their upgrades.

S.Elite was rather overrated. The only difference between S.Elite and Elite was that you got access to the S.Elite lounge, giveaways(weren't that many tbh) and downloads. As for Legends being inclusive, I don't think that was the intention of it at all. I think it was just to let people know that their past status wasn't a waste, that you're being rewarded with a usergroup with some upcoming perks and that holyfuckingshit you're an oldfag.

But my opinion on this new update is rather neutral. I like somethings and dislike others.

I think this update will warrant new and exciting things for the site, especially so in bringing in new members when and if @Oni uses the funds to advertise elsewhere more often. The rep reset I'm a bit neutral about for the most part, but with the implementation of Legends and even more (albeit paid for) usergroups, there'll be more variety of people joining in for a colorful front page. Paying for upgrades isn't really a way of telling people that you're better, but more that you're a proud supporter of the site.

I'm an oldfag but not a legend.

I think oni should have put ads sooner and kept the forum how it was. I think of the new update as buying a trophy from a garage sale and putting it in your trophy case. Sure there's people who you know you enough to know you didn't earn it but to new people you worked hard for it. One of the reasons i joined the forum was because you couldn't purchase upgrades (unlike hackforums) I thought that was extremely HQ. I also like how oni stressed grammar and HQ posts. Seems the forum is not going in the HQ direction anymore. Sad

I disagree with your last statement. Why cant we have Bronze Supporter medals Or gold supporter medals.

We do try stressing the use of grammar and HQ posts when we can, it's just that we'll always have a few users to the contrary because they don't feel they have to do so, they may be new to forums, or English isn't their primary language.

We actually do, though: the Donator awards.

TBH, I think it's fucking gay. Now I have to always be a poorfag on SL because I'm a poorfag IRL, when before I had a chance of getting enough points to upgrade, also my rep went down to like 1/3 of what it was, which is gay.

Oh also this. I always liked about SL is that you had to earn SP for ranks, I didn't mind you being able to buy SP to spend on the ranks because it was expensive and most people just earnt the SP anyway so it wasn't too bad, but now it's just gay.
