What's the difference between an antivirus and an antimalware?

An AV focuses on specifics, that Is, specific kinds of virus/malware hence It's considered an Antivirus "per se". Whereas an Anti-Malware covers a vast range Inclusive of viruses, malware, worms, trojans etc. That said, an Anti-Malware (MBAM In this case), does not protect against "viruses" In the same capacity as an AV.

By name and functionality, an Anti-Malware Is not classed as an Antivirus, thus can run side-by-side with an AV without compatibility Issues.

Generally speaking, because an Anti-Malware covers a broader range In It's detection, It tends (or should I say "try") to remove stubborn Infections that the AV has either missed or failed to remove/quarantine.

With that In mind, It's recommended to run an Anti-Malware alongside an AV. During my tests, I haven't experienced any compatibility Issues with MBAM and leading Antivirus software.

MBAM Anti-Exploit did detect a few false positives during my tests but as of July this year, fixes have been Implemented by the developers. I believe It's a good tool, but how "effective" It Is In It's detection and removal process, depends on the nature of the Infection Itself.

Along with everything mentioned here, ESET is not hard to get licenses for. I personally use ESET legitimately (and it is the best AV ive ever used) however a few years back I would use a software to generate keys or logins or something. If no one brings it up by this afternoon when I have time to look it up I'll send a link.

Well, I guess you got me on that one. But, still. Do you think having only Malwarebytes would be sufficient protection for Windows? Or do I also need an antivirus to go along with my antimalware?

I wouldn't, for a non tech savvy user. The best anti virus is your brain, and VMware/sandboxie. Malwarebytes + emulation in your arsenal is better than any antivirus imo.
