What are your questions about Linux? #1
Sup.

Stopping by for a minute. As some of you know I want to write a book for Linux beginners. This thread stands to be kind of a market research thing for me. I need to get a better idea of what questions new linux users would have. What do I need to talk about to help you transition to Linux, or improve your skillset as a new linux user. I could write documents diving right into disk partitioning, file ACLs, SELinux, etc, etc. However, a lot of that type of stuff has a certain level of implied previous knowledge. While that content may be fairly "basic" and simple to me, I've also been using Linux for 12 years give or take.

Thx~!

SELinux really seems like Sanskrit to me, I've always wanted to keep my systems secure but I'm forced to lean on default policy and hope that works...perhaps SELinux?

It's hard to say from a beginner's standpoint, but I shall give my opinion.

Anyone "new", should be considered as though they haven't as yet touched the OS. I'd Include a write up right from the first point of what the OS Is about, what to expect as a user, the Installation process, everything required to get It up and running with the bare necessities, a basic navigation pertaining to It's features and options and describing how to update and Install packages.

I'd then go to the more advanced, which will obviously cover things In greater detail, thus will take up most (If not all) of your book.

That's just the way I look at It If I was new to the Linux platform. I wish you all the very best with It. If anyone Is to write a book on Linux, It's definitely yourself.

i'd take some inspiration from The Linux Command Line by William Shotts. It's very well written.
