Okay I'm done using other peoples programs. I don't want to be a script kiddie, I want to learn how these programs work and begin to design my own. I already have some programming experience in Java, but that's about all I know as far as actual programming. I can change people's code when it's un-compiled no problem, but I want to start making my own programs from scratch so that they better fit my needs. Most of the programs I use look like this and I feel like many of them are written in the same language:

So what language would be best for making similar programs to those?

I want my first program to be a simple notepad program, but without the limitations of the stock notepad, like let me open files that are huge (5GB+), and maybe even a few other features.. Thanks.

Cheat Engine is open source and is mostly written in Pascal from the looks of it; http://cheat-engine.googlecode.com/svn/t...%20Engine/

I suggest looking up a program called PEiD. However you don't want to follow in the footsteps of these programs. If you want to start making your own tools I recommend using a language such as C.

Aside from the syntax, they have literally the exact same functionality. Y'know, since they both work off the same framework.

I don't recall hating on it.

But only knowing vb isn't going to get 'im far.

VB.net can get you very far but not as far as something like c++ could.
