I have always liked avast but I hate that it's pretty heavy on resources.

That's what I'm running on one of my systems.

I used to have Norton for around 10 years, but got tired of having to crack It's subscription each time a new release came around. I agree with Avast being somewhat resource-hungry though. In my views, that's the only letdown. Otherwise, I have no complaints on It's overall detection rate.

The detection rate of avast is indeed pretty good, they also have a lot of extra features and a premium subscription isn't really necessary. I don't use my virus scanner a lot, I believe you kan keep yourself pretty secure by common sense and other measures.

On windows a while ago I used to use AVG, but then Avast! stepped up their game and I started using them. I really hate anti-virus though, or any other stuff added on to my windows system.

Which is why I mostly use linux, with the anti-virus of Common Sense, just as a few other users (@BishopQ and @Elevate) have nicely pointed out

I don't use a AV at all, to trouble some, and almost all of the time it removes files I want to keep, like when I'm crypting etc. However, my old project Sky-AV works great, so I use that from time to time, the RunPE detector has saved my ass on many occasions. But the rule of thumb is to never rely on AV's, I used to, then I started making crypters and was shocked at how easily they just let things slide by, that's when I stopped using them.

1st time I hear about "Common Sense" as an AV, lol, pretty neat though if I think about it, but the only problem is you can't install it or give it to everyday users or clients.
