I love forums. There's not a thing I hate about it. Haha. Jokes.

I don't know what I really hate about forums, though.

I get annoyed by those who get bothered by every little thing and who want to report posts for no real reason. It really gets under my skin. I don't mind a good debate, and trolls can be amusing at times. Although I don't think things should get out of hand, forums that are overly moderated can become a real drag.

What annoys me most about forums is the expletives that some people use in their posts. There are also members who will disagree with someone elses comment and will start off their post by calling others demeaning names. There are however, great people on all the forums that I have joined, who are willing to give advice and sometimes it seems that they have even gone the extra mile to get the information they need to share with other members.

I hate the drama of staff positions. It has happened on the last 3 new forums I have been on. A staff position opens up and suddenly everyone is wanting to get promoted and some people start to get pissed at each other and it all goes downhill from there. Then the forum goes dead because no one wants to get on anymore.

The lust for power and that weakness as it because a hunt for embarrassment. People want a position and then they ruin it to the point where no one wants it. Its common, not only for forums but in reality as well. I've been asked to become staff on several other forums, I've more or less always thanked no to the offer. Mainly because I never did sought a rank when I joined a forum , I sought companionship, friendship and entertainment. I do agree with you that it is annoying, but I would say that you are only touching a single thing about the problem. The problem lies with how a staff team tries to select one, they give people a chance and people will miss use that and they will in the end ruin it. A staff team should rather test the members, to see who really wants it.

I'd have to go with what the original post said about new members joining and sharing their opinion then being instantly bashed and neg repped. Which leads me to another thing - reputation. A lot of forums have a very broken reputation system where people can be repfucked or neg repped because they didn't agree with someone, and they are usually judged based on reputation. Then again, it also shows the users that are trusted and respected. I also dislike when people post random things just for post count. Stuff that doesn't necessarily relate to the OP. I could probably go on and on, but those are some of the main things.
